My Biggest Thrill...

The Thrill of it All Blogfest

Today I've written a little piece for a blogfest that is near and dear to me. The Thrill of it All Blogfest is sponsored by my daughter, Heather M. Gardner, and another author, Tara Tyler, who have been newly published. Contestants were asked to describe their biggest thrill, real or imaginary. Read on.....

I could say that meeting Bishop Sheen, a popular religious television star and author at the time, and shaking his hand when I was a child was a big thrill.

Meeting Robert Kennedy and shaking his hand while he was campaigning for his brother at my college was a thrill, but it really wasn’t a big deal.

Getting race car driver Mario Andretti’s autograph and having coffee with Kenny Rogers before he become so famous was pretty exciting.

Having my picture in the local paper several times and my poetry and short articles published in the newsletter while I worked for the public library was pretty neat.

But, after 66 odd years of life, already having giving birth to two boys(as wonderful as they may be), knowing that for 5 generations in my husband’s family there hadn’t been a girl child born, I’d have to say, waking up from anesthesia and hearing the nurse tell me “You’ve had a little girl, Mrs. Skeels,” was, and still is, the biggest thrill of my life.  I love you, Heather.

Wow.
That was really nice of you.

But, if I remember the story correctly, you told the nurse she must have been mistaken.

Twice.

:)

Love you too! HMG

How sweet? No kids, but I can imagine the same feeling. I have two brothers and all boy cousins except for one. All boy nephews, too.

What a wonderful thrill! You've had some amazing experiences as well.

We had a similar thrill. There were no girls in my hubby's family after his mom; all of his cousins were boys. Then our first child was a boy. Imagine our surprise to go for the ultrasound for the twins to find out we were having 2 girls! We've since had 2 more girls after that. :)

That is a wonderful thrill! And you must be a proud mom to have such a talented daughter. And might I add, talk about rocking the support. I don't think my mom knows what a blog fest is, much less join one!

I haven't taken part in this blogfest, but have come across entries during my browsing. This was hands-down the most moving, and brought me a smile :)

Thank you all so much for your wonderful comments.

Heather asked if I would like to submit a thrill; I felt honored. She has encouraged me to enter the Blogging A-Z Challenge for two years, also. That's a lot of work.

She supports my crafty endeavors and I support her writing efforts. We make a good team and don't overlap our talents.

I enjoyed all of your entries, I think I got through each one. Good luck to all of you. As a relative, I am not in the running.
